A cloudy day turned into victory for the Golden Lions as they took on Elizabethtown Ignite FC here at The Pit, with a solid 4-1 win.
E-town started off strong, pressuring BGFC from the kickoff. The first goal of the match came from a long ball assist from Nick Petrie, creating a clear pathway for Ryan Rousel to go head-to-head with E-town’s goalie, finishing it in the back of the net. BGFC 1-0.
The 14’ brought another goal for BGFC, with Peyton Netherton bringing the score to a cool 2-0.
The remainder of the first half was dominated by BGFC constantly pressuring Elizabethtown Ignite’s defensive line, though there were a lot of missed opportunities for the Golden Lions to secure a few more goals.
By half-time, the score was set at 2-0, and Coach Evan Sutherland told the team to relax, that they were up 2-nothing, and to stop playing like they were behind. There was no need to force the ball forward when it was not needed.
The pep talk must have worked because the half-time kickoff lead to another BGFC goal in the 45’, this time by Damir Beganovic. The crowd chanted ‘LET’S GO LIONS’ and the match was alive!
The crowd went crazy after a beautiful goal by Munib Niksic in the 73’, and the intensity continued as BGFC lead 4-0.
Moments before the final whistle, Elizabethtown Ignite snuck a goal in at the 89’, making the final score 4-1, BGFC.
