WHY BGFC?

Bowling Green FC is the first recognized professional soccer team in the city of Bowling Green. In our first season, the Golden Lions became the 2021 UPSL Mid-South Conference champions. Bowling Green Football Club is now launching a new program to put our club ahead of the rest in youth training and recruitment: The BGFC Youth Academy. Our start was big, but our growth is bigger. 

Our Youth Academy program will work with our best BGFC coaches, teachers, and high level players to advance our youth system, not just the academy. Bowling Green FC's Youth Academy is geared towards development and advancement with a focus on our player path to pro in the future. The training environment will be unmatched in an effort to maximize every player every day. We want to open our doors to all individuals that choose to challenge themselves.

Our mission is to create the best youth soccer environment possible for young athletes who have the passion and desire to reach their full potential. We will have a clear pathway to professional, collegiate, and national teams by developing players through our proven training environment and focusing on our players holistically in our club.

Our vision is to develop players that will have the opportunity to play at the highest level of youth soccer in the country. BGFC will compete in the top leagues and events across the country and will provide a platform that is unmatched in our community.

USING A PLAYER-CENTRIC APPROACH

While we value the team as a whole, what makes BGFC’s Youth Academy stand out is our player-centric approach. It all starts with creating a love for the game. Players with a passion and drive for the sport will excel with developmental plans specific to the individual player, short and long-term. The players will learn best by connecting information to their own references as well by reflecting on their actions made in practice or games to enhance performance. Functional training will be implemented to create a versatile player trained in two (2) or more field positions. Holistically, every unit within the club is connected, so our desire is for each player to meet their full potential.

U9-U10: 

• Ball mastery

U11-U12: 

• Continue ball mastery

• Improve tactical proficiency in smaller groups

• Develop a winning mentality

• Introduction to Functional Training

U13-U14:

• Increased technical/tactical speed of play

• Psychological development

• Allowing freedom of choice and creativity to flourish

U15-U16:

• Beginning of self-training

• Understand proper game management 

• Opportunities to train within the first team pro

U17-U19:

• Increased technical/tactical speed of play at higher demands

• More focus on preparation and levels of fitness

• Opportunities for players to be exposed to other professional clubs and collegiate programs

CLUB OWNERSHIP

Our ownership group is focused on the betterment of the individuals, but not at the expense of the club. BGFC is comprised of staff that is solely structured to develop our players.  To simply state it, we are a group of soccer people making decisions about a soccer club with the player as our primary goal. We want them to mature into their best potential—not only as a soccer player but as a person.

The BGFC Youth Academy has hired the most qualified coaching staff in the Western Kentucky area, including, but not limited to: 

TWO—USSF National A License Coaches

ONE—USSF National B License Coach

ONE—USSF National C License Coach

TWO—Coaches enrolled in C courses

FOUR—USSF National D License Coaches

• Former professional players on staff

• Full-time goalkeeping coach

• Full-time strength coach

• Full-time nutritionist

• Full-time technical skills trainer 

• Full-time club psychologist

HOLISTICALLY

At BGFC, our goal is to look over the whole club and not just one group. We know that if we want to be a successful organization, all of our teams have to be a focus. For now, the Youth Academy is open for all boys U9-U19, but as we mentioned, we are growing! Plans are in place for a girl’s Youth Academy in the near future.
